“Ascension” is an interactive light installation featuring four channels of sound. News broadcasts from around the world are heard reporting some of the most tragic events in recent history, including live reports of 9/11, mass shootings, the attacks on Ukraine, global climate change, protest chants, and even the last cries of George Floyd. Participants are invited to walk into a 5 foot wide cylinder of translucent curtains that capture undulating, colored light that flows upward around them. A ring of light supporting the curtains illuminates randomly. Cacophony eventually gives way to the sound of an angelic choir, questioning the safety of humanity and the ability to rise above its challenges. The audio loops every 5 minutes participants exit by their own volition.
